Creative Problem Solving
The beginning of building... So, if business can improve communities, doesn't that mean that business is a strategy of creative problem solving? Day Three is a brainstorm session, lets collaborate around these unique ideas and foster discussion around entrepreneurship.
During today, each student will announce a focus to the rest of the class. The students will then be given 20-30 minutes to "team up" into groups between 3-5 youth. Homework: Discuss responsibilities and write a "founders agreement".
Now, what are you going to work on? Young people will either be prompted to use one of our toolboxes or build their own project. Each toolbox is only an outline for a larger project. Homework: Write up or expand upon a 6-month long business plan for your business. Examples will be provided.
Youth will have one hour to record a pre-practiced pitch and submit it to the AYM team for micro-investment into their project. Our micro-investment will vary from 50-500 USD per project in South Sudan.
Our investments into youth-led projects in South Sudan will be based on two main factors: sustainability and opportunity. This means, all projects will be analyzed for their longevity as well as their immediate economic opportunity.
Our team will make an initial investment of between 50-100 USD into projects after their initial pitching, business plan, and founders agreement. To receive this 50USD, all participating members will need to sign a document promising to attempt to pay A Youth Mind back for the initial investment after 4-6 months.
This follow-up investment is completely non-equitable and can be considered much like a strategic grant. Only up for consideration are those who paid back the initial investment of between 50-100USD. These larger grants will be around 500USD, managed and hosted by the staff of the Leadership Academy.
